IAA STILL GOING STRONG

The Icelandic Australian Association of NSW is still alive and well.  The organisation has been going since 1981.  Despite its ups and downs, there is a constant surge of energy to keep it going.  There are very few Icelander's living in Australia.  It's therefore important to provide this small ethnic community with the opportunities to get together once in a while.  Icelander's have for many generations enjoyed meeting others and like to compare notes on all things.  The two events, which the association organises each year, continue to provide this opportunity.  It's important for the older generation, but also for the new.  The ethnic heritage needs to be

At the 17th of June Celebrations in Central Gardens

nurtured in such a way that the younger generation can be proud of its Icelandic heritage and culture.  Today's young people are the people that will hopefully carry on with the organisation in the years to come.  Although these events are so few, they are still very important.  The IAA can also provide the members with the

opportunity to come together using modern communications tools such as the Internet.  This can be enjoyed by all members.  Whatever means we use to communicate, it's always pleasing to be able to discuss and share ideas with other fellow Icelander's.
